.EU & Brexit
On 28 March the European Commission announced that all UK registrants, including individuals and organizations, will no longer be eligible for .EU domain ownership commencing on 30 March 2019, coinciding with Brexit. While similar announcements from other ccTLD registries included a “grandfathering” option for current registrants, no option exists for .EU at this time. According to EURid, the .EU registry operator, over 300,000 domains will be canceled unless alternative arrangements are made by UK domain holders.
Principium plans to announce a solution for affected registrants in the coming months. We are closely monitoring this matter along with other possible EU ccTLD registry policy changes as a result of Brexit. Please refer to the European Commission’s statement for more information:
